Generally, thyroid and parathyroid surgery carried out under general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation. But, in selected patients, regional anesthesia may be preferable. Advantages of regional anesthesia are faster recovery, potential avoidance of adverse effects of general anesthesia and early assessment of outcome analysis. It can also be used in high risk patient who are not candidates for general anesthesia. Development of newer anesthetic drug, like propofol, allow effective sedation with short duration of action and, with this, monitored anesthesia care is usually performed as combined with loco-regional anesthesia. We report successful management of a high risk patient undergoing parathyroid surgery using cervical plexus block combined with monitored anesthesia care.
